Special thanks to CTMH consultant Sharon Chatterton for sharing this great technique!

The Layered Paper Quilting Technique is variation of Iris Folding. The quilted or stain glass design looks amazing and complex, but is actually quite easy. It is a perfect way to use scraps of paper because the sizes of the patterned paper pieces are quite small.

<img src="http://www.scrapedia.com/images/CTMH/Techniques/circle-tri-orr.jpg"width=175 >

Materials:
Pattern (see below)
5 ½ x 4 ¼ card base
3 ½ x 3 ½ Vanilla Cream CS with 3” circle cut in middle
For square template: 16 pieces of 1×2 patterned paper in 4 unique patterns
For round template: 20 pieces of 1×2 paper in 5 unique patterns
Masking tape or other removable tape
Scotch tape
Optional to create double mat: 5 ¼ x 4 Sorbet CS with 3 ¼ circle cut in upper middle

Directions:
1.) You will need four 1”x2” pieces of the same patterned paper for each numbered area in your pattern. If you are using the square 4 area patterns, you will need four 1”x2” pieces each of 4 unique patterned papers. If you are using the round 5 area patterned, you will need four 1”x2” pieces each of 5 unique patterned papers, plus an optional 2×2 square piece for the center (area #6).

2.) Fold all of the patterned paper pieces into right triangles (90°). Lay the paper piece horizontally, and then fold the two upper corners into the center bottom of the paper to meet.

3.) Tape pattern (right side up) to table with removable tape.

4.) Line up card front (front side down) over pattern and tape to the table using removable tape. Only tape around the outside edge, not on the inside of the cutout.
Starting with the four sections marked #1, tape down four patterned paper triangles so that the lined up with the lines on the pattern. When you lay the pieces down, tape them so the visible folds & edges are facing you. The finished side should be facing down.

5.) Continue to tape down each round or paper in order to the sections marked #2, #3, #4, etc.

6.) When you are finished taping down all the patterned papers you will carefully remove the pattern from the table and turn your completed card front right side up. Trim excess paper at this point so there is no hangover on the sides.

7.) Adhere card front to card base.

8.)Optional: Adhere additional cardstock piece to front with slightly larger cutout to create double matting.

Tips:
•Use single sided scotch tape for this technique, and don’t be skimpy. Tombo or other similar tape runners are not recommended for this.

•The patterns are sized by default at 3”, but you can blow up or shrink the templates for other sizes of projects. If you change the size, increase the patterned paper pieces by the same ratio. To figure the correct ratio for the patterned paper pieces, divide the height of the template by 3 to get the height of the patterned paper piece. Then double that number to get the width of the patterned paper piece. For example, if you blow up the template to 5”, increase the size of the layering papers to 1-2/3” x 3-1/3”.
