For this layout we wanted to use the Cherry-O Paper pack without using any cherries. For embellishments we added a tulip butterfly which pops off the page, and a crumpled paper flower (see instructions below).
To make a crumpled paper flower, punch out or free hand cut a few paper flowers in similar sizes. (To free hand cut them, start by tracing a circle about the right size. Then free hand petals around the circle. Once they are crumpled it won’t matter how perfect the flowers looked when they were first cut out, so don’t be scared to try it. ) Dampen the flowers with a spray from a fine mist bottle or by laying them on top of a damp cloth. Crumple the flowers into a ball, unroll and crumple again. You can also add additional distressing by swiping them over a coordinating ink pad. Unroll and layout the flowers. Glue them together or use a brad to attach the layers.

The Layered Paper Quilting Technique is variation of Iris Folding. The quilted or stain glass design looks amazing and complex, but is actually quite easy. It is a perfect way to use scraps of paper because the sizes of the patterned paper pieces are quite small.

Trim papers according to paper dimensions on page 40 of Wishes. Instead of cutting separate pieces for A and C, cut one 3” x 5 1/2” piece since they are from the same piece of paper.
Emboss image on piece D. (Note: Use a piece of Baby Pink cardstock so the color of the cardstock will show through the embossed image.)
Sponge Chocolate ink over surface of piece D, revealing the embossed image. (Note: The image will resist the ink.)
Sponge edges of all papers and card base with Chocolate ink.
Stamp sentiment on right side of piece B in brown StazOn® ink.

Sepia toned pictures are another way to change the style of your scrapbook pages. They often give an old world feel to modern pictures. Historically, photographers would use cuttlefish to protect pictures from decaying. Over time, the black and white pictures would change to brown, red, and yellow hues we are familiar with today. Now it is used by photographers to resemble a bygone era. In scrapbooking, sepia toned pictures can add a different feel and style to any scrapbooks.
Sepia pictures are perfect for creating a feeling of fond and personal memories. Wedding memories, love story layouts, and family traditions are perfect themes for sepia pictures. I have found it is a style that creates a feeling of warmth tied to memories. You can even journal to add to the effect sepia toned pictures.
Another use of sepia is to combine a set of pictures that otherwise wouldn’t match. An example of this is given in the pictures above. I had a group of images that I wanted to put together but the colors, date of pictures, and locations were all different. I wanted to tie them together and sepia allowed me to have consistent color theme within the photos. The result is a nice layout with different time periods.
If you scrapbook with sepia toned images you may want remember that your image is often the focal point. Using mute and neutral colors will allow your pictures to stand out. I would recommend autumn, winter, and basic colors that Close to My Heart sells or any muted colors and stamps will work.

Shimmer mist is a quick and easy way to add a pearl-like sparkle to any project. You can literally make the mist in less than a minute, and it will keep for a long time in a sealed bottle.
Directions:
Add 1 part Pearl Paint to 5-8 parts rubbing alcohol in a fine mist spray bottle & shake well. Play with the ratio to make the mist more opaque or transparent. You can also spray multiple layers of mist to create a stonger effect.
Tips:
Water may be substituted for rubbing alcohol if you allow a few extra minutes to dry.
You can add re-inker to color the shimmer mist.
When stamping an image that will be sprayed with shimmer mist, you may want to use a darker shade of ink for better show-through.
You can spray your cardstock first, and then stamp over the dried shimmer mist.
Shimmer mist can be stored for weeks in a sealed container. Shake well before each use.
For our November meeting, we created two Christmas Cards featuring home-made shimmer pearl mist. To make the mist, we used Pearl Paint mixed with water in a fine mist spray bottle. This is a really fast & easy technique to add shimmer to any project.
To make pearl shimmer mist, mix one part Pearl Paint with four parts water (or rubbing alcohol) in a fine mist spray bottle. An empty My Acrylix Cleaner spray bottle works great.
